The New Grading System : 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0 & 6.0!
Kookaburra have introduced a new grading system for their english willow cricket bats for the 2019 season. We've seen this trend already. in 2018 Adidas launched the Adidas XT White 3.0 cricket bat that was a grade 3 english willow bat. Other bats from this brand include models like the Adidas Libro 2.0 cricket bat and the Adidas XT Black 2.0 cricket bat. The model numbers 1.0 through 6.0 denoting the grade of english willow used for the manufacture of the Kookaburra cricket bat as you can see below.
Willow grading:
GRADE 1 ( PRO & 1.0 )
The most expensive willow and arguably the best looking blade. There may be some red wood evident on the blade and generally there will be at least 6 fairly straight grains visible on the face. There may be a small knot or speck in the edge or back of the bat but the playing area should be clean.
GRADE 2 ( 2.0 )
Excellent quality blade but usually more red wood may be visible than on a grade 1 which does not affect the playability of the bat. Similar number of grains to a grade 1 with potentially the odd blemish or butterfly in the grain on the face.
GRADE 3 ( 3.0 )
The most extensively used grade of blade which offers excellent value for money. A grade 3 blade may have up to half the face in
a tint/red wood colour, but this does not affect playability. This grade will have around 5 grains on the face that may not be that straight and there is likely to be some specks or butterfly marks on the grains on the face of the bat.
GRADE 4 ( 4.0, Kahuna LITE & BIG Kahuna )
Usually over half of the blade may have a discolored area but the product playability should not be affected. There are often only 4 grains and there are more butterfly stains and marks on the face of the bat.
GRADE 5 ( 5.0, Ghost Obscene & Ghost LITE )
This grade is produced during our production process and it is basically similar to a grade 4 but may have more stain in the wood so cosmetically will not look as good.

The Kookaburra Nickel Cricket Bat 2019
The all new for 2019 Kookaburra Nickel Cricket bat will be available in the Pro, G2 2.0, Grade 3 3.0 & grade 5 5.0 english willow models. All models will be in the 2.8 to 2.10 weight range. This would suggest you could expect edges to be around the 35mm to 38mm range and spine height around 60mm.
The Kookaburra Rampage Cricket Bat 2019
weight range - 2lb 9oz to 2lb 111⁄2oz
Rampage Pro, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 & 6.0
As the name suggests a bat which is not shy in making an impact on the game. The traditional bow is complimented by a power profile which will allows players to dwarf even the biggest boundaries.
