GM Cricket Bats Range 2022

Gunn and Moore also commonly referred to as GM has recently released its highly anticipated 2022 cricket bats range. GM has released a total of 7 bat lineups for 2022. Chroma, Noir, Diamond and Icon return for 2022 with their new looks and different build while there are 3 new additions this year which are named as Sparq, Prima and Radon.

All these series feature different designs and color combinations. Unlike other brands, GM bats don’t have a fixed willow quality or bat size. You can select a lineup model of your choice and then choose the grade of willow and the size of the bat later on. This way, they provide the most suitable and customised bats to the consumers.

Here is a list of their 2022 bats range:

GM Diamond Cricket Bat 2022 Lineup

Designed with the needs of English all-rounder Ben Stokes in mind, the Diamond line-up is best suited for dynamic players who like to play shots all around the wicket. The Diamond line-up bats feature a relatively shorter blade length at 540 mm which lends them exquisite balance and pick-up feel. The traditional, full-blade length makes for ideal off-center play, and the extended swell lends itself extremely well to playing both front-foot and back-foot shots. These bats have a handle length of 310 mm and feature a hex grip which gives excellent control and allows you to drive the ball neatly through the gaps. Combine this with a large sweet spot and a medium swell position (at 62 mm), and you get blades that are more than well-suited for explosive players, who like to take the game to the opposition. Additionally, this line-up features a flowing contoured spine, a smooth, rounded face, and a bow-face profile which gives the bats a modern and elegant look.

The bats are made from unbleached Prime English Willow and are available in a variety of grades depending on how much you are willing to pay, and come in a variety of sizes and weights (ranging from 2lb 8oz to 2lb 12 oz.)

GM Prima Cricket Bat 2022 Lineup

Designed for players who like to dominate on the front foot, the Prima lineup offers the players an impressive ability to hit the ball out of the park. With their sweet spots located near the toe end, the Prima bats are ideal for players who like to score their runs down the ground. The willow rings are concentrated near the center of the bat, and offer the exemplary driving ability, particularly when batters manage to the middle ball. The lower position of the hitting spot also makes the Prima bats ideal for low-bounce conditions (as typically found in the Indian sub-continent).

The scalloped shape of the face allows for the maximization of the spine height, leading to deeper gouging without adding too much extra weight. The use of the Pro-Lite grip also complements the feeling of lightness that is a hallmark of these bats. The higher spine makes for unparalleled hitting power and allows the batsman to keep the bowlers on their back foot.

The Prima lineup bats are built to have semi-flat edges instead of completely flat ones. This allows for the benefits of flat edges– a larger sweet spot along with superior guiding ability – while the slightly curved shape of the blade allows for better manipulation of angles with wrist rotation.

The bats are made from superior quality English Willow (as we have come to expect from Gunn & Moore) and have excellent grain with only minor blemishes. The choice for weights is quite varied; players can choose lighter or mid-weight bats at 2lb 8 oz or opt for heavier ones which come to about 2lb 12 oz.

GM Icon Cricket Bats 2022 Lineup

The Icon line-up - a stalwart of Gunn & Moore - makes a comeback for 2022 with a phenomenal new look featuring an aggressively concaved profile that is bound to light up the game with action. The higher swell makes these bats particularly good for back foot players, but the middle still has enough power for those who like to play on the front foot. These bats feature a shorter handle (at 294 mm) and a fuller blade which makes them ideal for the traditional batsman who likes to build solid innings for his team. The prominent curving of the profile, along with a lighter weight lend themselves to one of the best pick-ups on the market and allows you to display the full repertoire of your shorts. A slightly higher sweet spot compensates well for the lighter weight, shifting the balance up toward the hands which effectively gives the bat an extra ounce of weight. The curving bow enables the hands to be slightly ahead of the ball at the point of contact making it possible to play those clean, exquisite drives.

The handle comes with a treble spring fitted and is ovalled at the base for maximum control and comfortable placement of hands.

Like other bats in the Gunn & Moore repository, the Icons are made from Prime English Willow. The grade of the wood varies according to the price point. Compared to the Diamond, the Icons are slightly lighter coming in sizes ranging from 2lb 6oz to 2lb 10 oz.

GM Chroma Cricket Bats 2022 Lineup

Released last year, the Chroma line-up returns again in 2022 with a dazzling array of bright, iridescent colors and a bottom-heavy profile perfect for smashing the ball all over the ground. There is little to no concaving in the blade, and the weight is concentrated in the bottom— perfect for lofting the ball over the midfield or the bowler’s head.

The sweet spot is placed perfectly in the middle, neither too high nor too low. This caters to a wide range of playing styles and is the most sought-after feature in first-grade cricket bats. This configuration gives the best performance square off the wicket and also caters to players who like to play their shots down the ground.

Usually seen at the international level, the full-blade profile offered by Chroma is one of the most versatile that you will ever find. The larger, flat edges provide a larger sweet spot enabling big hits up into the air or drives down the ground and minimizing edged shots. The enhanced bow design allows the batsman to play belligerent shots and the extra weight on the lower end can be an excellent resource on pitches with lower bounce.

The bats offer a Pro-Lite grip –the lightest one offered by Gunn & Moore. The Semi-oval shaping of the handle provides a happy compromise between round and oval handles; this enables perfect alignment and keeps the bottom hand in check leading to more controlled shot play.

GM Sparq Cricket Bats 2022 Lineup

Crafted to lend power to every type of shot imaginable, the Sparq series boasts a higher swell that is great for late pulls and cuts. The rounded edges reach further down the bat, giving the batter enough hitting power to smash the ball to the boundary with ease. Thanks to the scalloped shape of its shape, the bat manages to have a higher spine without adding too much dead weight. The elevated spine enables power-hitting, while also maintaining a relatively high power to weight ratio. These features combine with a light grip to make bats that are incredibly good at heavy-hitting but still light and spry in the hand. These attributes make for a lethal combination that will always keep the opposition in a defensive mode.

The edges are close to the 40 mm mark which is considered ideal by many professional players. The wide surface makes for a larger sweet spot that helps in middling the ball every time. The Sparq lineup offers a regular or standard bow with a slight curving towards the handle which makes for a smoother stroke playing experience.

Gunn & Moore uses unbleached English willow for the construction of these superlative blades with a tinge of redwood coloring and minor cosmetic blemishes. A range of sizes is offered, ranging from 2 lb 8 oz to 2 lb 112 oz.

GM Player Edition Cricket Bats 2022

GM Ben Stokes Cricket Bat 2022

Crafted to mimic the profile used by English and Durham star Ben Stokes, this bat caters to dynamic players who want to give great performances for their team. The relatively shorter blade length lends the bat a dynamic sweet spot which makes it possible to play an extensive range of shots around the wicket. The edges – coming at 39 mm – are impressively large and enable confident stroke play, while the taller spine and convexed shape allow the batsman to go for bigger hits. The heavier weight, starting at 2lb 10 oz, only enhances the power-hitting ability and will do wonders in the hands of a practiced hitter.

The handle comes in an oval shape which constrains the bottom hand during stroke play but lends it leverage while playing loftier shots. There is a slight arching towards the handle and this allows the hands to be a fraction ahead of the ball during the point of contact permitting smooth drives down the ground. The grip style is the traditional HEX, and the handle is made from multi-piece cane and is fitted with a treble spring which greatly boosts durability and comfort.

The bat comes with Ben Stokes signature engraved and is made from the top 0.05% of English Willow (graded 1+) available. You can expect to see a higher number of perfect grains on this blade and it will be difficult to spot a blemish or deformity. You can watch a detailed review on our Youtube channel here.

Despite a light grip, this bat is comparatively heavier (starting from 2lb 9 oz) and is better suited for players who don’t mind the extra weight. Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why is there no specified willow quality for each GM bat?

  1. GM bats are designed to serve a large audience. Instead of producing each lineup with a specific willow quality, GM provides the freedom to choose the willow used in the bat of a specific model. The profile, dimensions, and branding would be the same but the willow quality differs. It makes it easy for everyone to afford any model.

Q. Which lineups are the new addition to the GM 2022 cricket bats range?

  1. GM’s Chroma, Noir, Diamond, and Icon return for 2022 with their new looks and different build while there are 3 new additions this year which are named Sparq, Prima, and Radon.

Q. What does DXM mean in GM bat names?

  1. DXM is the latest technology by GM that is used to ensure the highest quality manufacturing of bats. They use this technology to determine whether a certain wood is of enough caliber to last long and give consistent results or not. Their CAD (computer-aided designs) are inch-perfect.

Q. Why do GM bats vary in size?

  1. Just like the freedom to choose willow grade, you can also choose the size of bat for each model. This way, you can get a bat of your choice in your own size and budget (based on willow grade).

Conclusion

You have so many bat options that can make it difficult to decide the best one for you. At the end of the day, it all boils down to your need and playing style but GM bats are definitely hard to resist. Whatever decision you end up making, it is always a good option to buy protection for your bat along with your order. This way, you can get the most out of them for the longest time.
